Glenmorangie has released a new limited-edition whisky, A Tale of Tokyo, a creation inspired by the fascination of Director of Whisky Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden with the Japanese capital and its captivating contrasts.

Japanese artist Akira Yamaguchi was commissioned to adorn each bottle with his creative perspective and its packaging. Juxtaposing famed landmarks from both Tokyo and the Highland Distillery, Yamaguchi-san proposes an intricate work, uniting his maximalist style with Glenmorangie’s technicolor palette.

This unique single malt evokes the wonders of Tokyo, marrying bold flavors with a subtle softness.

Dr. Bill united Glenmorangie part-aged in Mizunara oak with whisky that had spent time in both sherry and bourbon casks. Mizunara casks are generally difficult to source, and known for bringing a distinctive and unusual flavor to whisky.

The whisky’s taste profile is described as “Peppery notes meet cherries and coconut, as orange zest fuses with incense and sweet oak. The finish brings classic Glenmorangie flavors of mandarin, almond and marzipan.”

Commenting on Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo, Dr. Bill Lumsden said: “During my travels sharing Glenmorangie around the world I’ve gathered new inspirations for whisky creations, and Tokyo has always been one of my favorite places. I’m fascinated by the contradictions between its bustling streets and tranquil gardens, ancient and modern buildings, its many sensory experiences and its culture, and this made me wonder whether I could capture my experience of Tokyo in whisky form.”

Glenmorangie will ship bottles directly within the UK via online purchase and availability seems to be limited elsewhere. We recommend checking with your local spirits shop on stock or special orders.
